Marvel Point One One-Shot - a bunch of short stories that let you know what’s coming up in Marvel next year. Great stories, but you’ll probably find out about all this within Comic Vine’s news feed. Magneto: Not a Hero #1 - It looks like Magneto goes on a rampage. What’s really going on? Find out in this mini-series. Huntress Vol 3 #2 - the story continues as Helena tries to foil a human smuggling and prostitution ring. Another great mini-series that’s a lot of fun to read. Now that Spider-Island is over my pull list is getting smaller and smaller! Batwoman #3 - Continues to be one of the best illustrated books I’m reading. I’m pretty interested to see where this arc is going since the villain is so secondary to anything going on. Digging all the plot and character development. Avenging Spider-Man #1 - Joe Mads and Zeb Wells put together quite a fun book. Filled with great jokes and quips without overdoing it like Dan Slott combined with solid, dynamic art. The Thor in the Avengers panel was particularly well done. I’m excited about this new book. ...

While I spend a lot of time re-reading Scott Pilgrim books, this was still a pretty good week for quality books. As always, whenever you see a link, it leads to a Comic Vine review. X-23 - Marjorie Liu and Phil Noto are a fantastic creative team for this book, but I hear we’re losing Phil Noto next issue. It’ll be a bummer, but I’ll definitely stick around. The first month was obviously great for sales. Many of the titles went into third or fourth printings. But what effect did it have on my comic selection? I’ve always been more of a Marvel guy although I’ve enjoyed Batman cartoons and movies. Before the new 52 I’d started collecting Detective Comics, Batman and Robin, and Gotham City Sirens. The new 52 piqued my interest since the books were supposed to written for new readers, like me, to be able to just jump right in. So I added Justice League, Justice League International, Catwoman, Batman, Batman: The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad, Nightwing, Teen Titans, Red hood and the Outlaws, Birds of Prey, Batwoman, Supergirl, Superboy, Action Comics, and Superman to my pull list. So in the first month they definitely got what they wanted: people trying out books they’d never considered before. I know I’d found myself bored whenever I’d looked through a Superman book. ...

It was a busy week for my pull list. I’ve linked reviews on ComicVine where pertinent. Daredevil #5 - The bare minimum in terms of quality for all comic books and I mean that in a good way. If you’re book isn’t at least this good, why are you even bothering? The Ultimates #3 - Things fall apart for Nicky Fury and The Ultimates. Hickman has put the team in such a dangerous position that I don’t see how he writes his way out of it yet. Very cool. ...
